Ballet

Our first ballet/opera experience. It’s been a long week, and this was a great way to blow off some steam. No pun intended bc we all left after the intermission due to incredibly hot temperature in the venue. Wearing a full suit was a mistake!

Regardless,, the performance was fantastic. If it wasn’t for the temperature and school night, we definitely would’ve stayed for the entire show.

Embassy workout tradition continues

I do everything I can to boost the community morale, and bridge the gap between the local staffs and American workers. What better to do that than organizing workouts together?

In Bangui, I organized daily workouts, but the small community we had was invited to workout during the weekends. The Front Office definitely participated and I believe this was an excellent community building exercise, no pun intended. The beauty of this is that no one is forced to participate and no one is judged if you don’t come or if you are terrible at working out. Except me. I will judge. Secretly.

This week was our third Sunday workouts.

On the other hand, Romi loves these types of workouts. She actually does all the workouts that are programed, with smaller weights, and all the marines adore her, encouraging her to come to these events (not like she has a choice, but you get the idea).

First night in Mavrovo

So our hotel door didn’t lock…let alone close. We had to pile up a whole bunch of furniture next to the door. Good thing that I had dozens of pocket knives with me!

Day 1 in Mavrovo

Arrived in Mavrovo, which is 1.5 hours away from Skopje, a well known ski-resort. Unfortunately, the roads to accommodate all the cars were not up-to-date. There was a lot of driving backwards to let the incoming traffic pass and at one point, I had to drive the entire bridge’s length backward to let a tour bus get through.

And then there was our hotel. The door to our room didn’t lock. As in yes the door didn’t lock. It didn’t even close. The staffs didn’t care and charged us 100 euro for the room. I’ll post a short video of our hotel door situation in the next blog. But we did have a great view (see photos from the previous blog) and the room was well decorated and cozy.

Anyway, after dealing the door, and getting bounced around several restaurants because they were all reserved, we stumbled into a mom-and-pop pub. And boy, was the food really good. I had one of the best beef knee stew and schnitzel in my life!

How is it Friday already?

There have been lots of F ME! moments this week. But when I saw this one morning, I had to take moment, pause, snap a picture, and then scurry over to my next meeting.

Avocado sandwich

Found a new banging brunch place. It has a hipster decor, and avocado sandwich and fruit parfait on the menu. I didn’t eat any of that, but no indoor smoking makes this a solid 4 stars out of 5 restaurant.

Not crashing and burning

Very productive but a long week. I surprised myself for not crashing…but I guess I have my dip, Red Bulls and Vit B 12 supplement to thank.

15 mins north of Skopje.
